Terms of Service

Last updated October 21, 2026

These terms govern your use of the Subveil web service. The open-source CLI runs in your own infrastructure under its own license.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By creating an account or using the Subveil web service (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are authorized to bind it. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service and the CLI

The Service is a control plane for managing masking policies, schema metadata, preview branches and audit receipts. The Subveil CLI is open-source software distributed under its own license, and runs in your infrastructure.

The Service stores metadata only. It is not designed to receive row data or database credentials, and you agree not to send them. See our Privacy Policy.

3. Accounts and workspaces

  • You must provide accurate information and keep your credentials and API tokens secure.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account and for the members you invite.
  • You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to violate law or third-party rights.
  • Probe, disrupt or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other customers' data.
  • Reverse engineer or resell the Service except as permitted by the applicable open-source licenses.
  • Upload data other than the metadata the CLI is designed to send.

5. Your responsibility for masking

Subveil helps you detect and mask sensitive data, but you decide which columns are masked and with what rule. Automated PII hints may be incomplete. You are responsible for reviewing your policy and for ensuring your use of the output complies with applicable law and your own obligations.

6. Plans, billing and cancellation

  • Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or annually, through our payment processor, Stripe.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
  • Fees are non-refundable except where required by law. We may change prices with advance notice for future periods.

7. Intellectual property

We and our licensors own the Service. You keep all rights in your data, policies and configuration. You grant us a limited license to host and process that metadata solely to provide the Service. Feedback you give us may be used without obligation.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that masking will catch every sensitive value.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Subveil will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms or to protect the Service. On termination, your right to use the Service ends and we will delete your workspace metadata in line with our Privacy Policy.

11. Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these Terms and will notify account owners of material changes. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept them. These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Subveil is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
